24 Tips in January for Clearing out the Clutter

by Kelly on January 3rd, 2008

To kick off my first month, I’m going to offer you my 24 best tips for getting your office organized. (Your job is to come up with the 25th!)

Tip #1. Throw out the junk mail as soon as it arrives.

I know, sounds like a no-brainer, right? But I am surprised at how many offices and desks are cluttered with magazines that will never be read, announcements that will never be opened, coupons that will never be used and catalogs that will never be perused. Don’t let the clutter overtake the office - be proactive. Sort through the mail as soon as it comes. You don’t have to file it yet (more on that later in the month). Just toss out the junk to make your piles more manageable to begin with.

My recycling company now allows junk mail in the tub. I keep a box under my desk and just chunk the junk in there every day. And it fills up fast with catalogs, ads, flyers, etc. It is amazing how much junk mail is cluttering up the postal system!

    Suzanne,
That’s a great idea! In most towns and cities, you can just put all of the junk out at the curb.
As to the volume of junk mail, I intend to follow-up with a separate post about reducing the amount of it overall.
