A Few of My Favorite Things
Sometimes, being productive at the office has absolutely nothing to do with folders or papers. Sometimes, it’s about finding that moment where everything is going the way that you want. I find that it’s the simple things that make that possible.
Here are a list of things that I keep at the office that make me happy:

1, coffee, black
2, Orbitz gum
3, Post it notes - only in bright colors
4, iTunes - I must have Elvis, Abba and the Dixie Chicks. When I really need to be pumped up, I listen to Eminem.
5, Pictures, just a few of my kids, my parents and my dog
6, My girls’ artwork - I have it posted on my walls
7, Lots of blue pens - preferably Uniball
Did I mention coffee?
What about you?

Hi Kelly
I’m with you, as long as I have coffee I am pretty much set to work.
I also have a variety of mugs that I select each morning depending on my mood - a “smile at the rain” one for rainy days, a Hermione Granger one for connecting with my authentic self, and a NYC one to remind me of my more cosmopolitan moments, etc.
I do a lot of research and like to highlight what I read - yellow highlighters only, and preferably the old-fashioned yellow - not the bright neon yellow.
And my most favorite office item is my verizon wireless card because it liberates me from my desk and lets me work outside, or at any coffee shop (wi-fi or not), on the train or in the airport.
My favorite background noise is eavesdropping on conversations in Starbuck’s - I’ve heard first dates, breakups, teen-age confessions and religious conversions…TV or an iPod just can’t compete!! :)

Considering that I’m typing on a keyboard all the time, you’d think I wouldn’t need a pen, but I do. And it has to be a certain kind, which changes as I find new pens. My favorite of the moment is “Dr. Grip” - gotta be gel, too. Nice bold line. Pens are one of my favorite things.

I have to have my office in a bag where ever I go — extra notebooks, pens (my favorite are miniature fountain pens), camera and sometimes my laptop.

I adore my new 22 inch monitor.
I got off cofee because I have sensitive teeth—coffee stains teeth, whiteners work by buffing off the stained layer of enamel, which make the teeth more sensitive and easier to stain. Repeat cycle. Coffee’s also responsible for some lower back pain:)

I’m a pen fan. Apparently, it’s a trait that I’ve passed onto my girls because we can’t keep enough of them at the house. And they must be blue ink - that’s the lawyer in me. Lawyers use blue ink because then the pages can’t be mistaken for copies.

And Miki, I know that coffee can be bad for you. But I’m addicted. It’s not even about the caffeine - I drink a lot of decaf. It’s the smell, the warmth, the whole package.
Mmm. Want. coffee. now.
