Be accountable for your goals

(www.myorganizedbiz.com) - Another thing that can help you break out of a rut or slump is accountability. What? Isn’t that why we’re our own bosses, so we don’t have to report to anyone else? Yes. But if you have a hard time being self-motivated when it comes to short- and long-term goals, then maybe alternate inspiration is in order.

Sometimes it helps to share a goal with someone. It could be your family, a friend, or a trusted colleague. Someone who can remind you of your goal, of your promise to yourself. And if you have a person who can give you a gentle push - or maybe even a slight shove - when you’re not making progress, even better.

If you blog, you could share your goal with your readers. As you progress, give updates about how you’re doing. It’ll help you with planning your next steps. And many times, readers are not shy in asking how your goal is coming along.

I’ve done this with a variety of things, most especially fitness goals. I won’t go to the gym by myself, but if I know I’m supposed to meet someone I’ll make sure I get there. I’d hate to disappoint my friend, right?

I need to do that more with my professional life, too. For instance, I want to have some more giveaways for you all. I’m committed to reading some new books and reviewing some products, after which we’ll have a contest. If I tell you that we’ll have more contests, then I’ll work to finish the reading and get those contests going. Because I imagine you all, standing there and tapping your foot, waiting for what I promised you.

See how that works? I’m ready to go finish that book I’m reading and test out some software. What are YOU ready to do?
