Continually Thinking of Organization
Once I set myself on the 20 Minutes per day plan to organization, I find myself doing something before I go to bed if I’ve had a busy day and haven’t gotten to my quota. It’s something like a fear of falling off the cliff if I don’t keep the clutter at bay.
Maybe that’s a reason for sticking with it. This becomes a habit, a mindset, so that you’re continually thinking about keeping the disorganization out of your life.
I found, as I awoke the other morning, an idea popped into my mind about a place to store my accumulation of family photos until I had time to deal with them. It meant rearranging some file drawers in a way that made sense and placing what was there elsewhere (and eliminating some of it). Now the photos are all together in one place rather than scattered around.
When I need them for teaching my family history writing classes and to compile into albums (eventually on CDs), I know where to find them.
This morning, without thinking about doing it later, I immediately separated the junk mail from the important and tossed it or shredded it.
Bit by bit, I realize, if we keep at it, we’ll develop organizational habits. It’s a matter of refraining from discouragement when you see little happening.
What are some of your organizational tips?
