Delight in Delegating - Tick Tock Tuesday
I have a real problem with delegating. I don’t like to ask for help, so I just don’t most of the time. I am really trying to do better at this and realize that I am not a robot and that I can not possibly do everything by myself.
I am learning that for me to be successful in life, whether it’s in business or at home, I need to focus on the things I am good at. For example, I love to cook. This is something I am trying to make more time for and I couldn’t imagine having someone else cook for me. Could I handle a personal chef a couple of times a week? Well, okay, that does sound a little nice. But for the most part this is not something I would delegate to, let’s say, my husband. He doesn’t enjoy the kitchen and him cooking dinner for our family is not the best idea in the world.
Now when it comes to cleaning, I can hand that over to someone else in a heart beat! I love to organize a messy closet, but scrubbing toilets and floors does nothing for me. Did you know there are actually people who do this for a living and they like it? I know…it’s crazy!
I was thinking the other day what I could do with the extra time I would save if I didn’t have to worry about the deep cleaning of my house. I could give more to my blogs and websites, take the kids to the park, try a new recipe or just sit back and relax. That’s why for 2008, I have decided to delegate the cleaning. Let me tell you, I can not wait for 2008. :)
If you are a business owner, most likely you are extremely busy and there are probably a few things that you could delegate to others, which would then allow you to spend that extra time on the things you are really good at. So, make a list of the things you absolutely could not delegate, the things you actually enjoy doing and then a list of things you could hand over to someone else. It is a very freeing feeling when you let go of some of the things on your plate.
Delight in delegating and see what it does for your business and you personally. I think you’ll like the outcome.
