Is procrastination a necessary evil?
(www.myorganizedbiz.com) - Dozens of times in the last week or month, you’ve probably thought about clearing off your desk or doing some record keeping (or whatever That Thing is you’ve been meaning to do).
Despite your best intentions, it doesn’t happen.
I say: Roll with it.
Anne Wayman at The Golden Pencil has honed this technique to a fine point by learning to actually enjoy procrastination.
You’re procrastinating anyway, so instead of “shoulding” on yourself or getting stressed out, just throw yourself into it wholeheartedly! Live it up and do stuff you want to do - like drool over your latest coveted electronic gadget or (my addiction of choice) do an online jigsaw puzzle.
A little-known fact about procrastination is that it’s actually critical to the creative process.
If you’ve got work to produce and you’re feeling completely stuck, step away from it. Believe it or not, your brain is still working while you’re away from the task. With enough of a break, you’ll find that when you get back to the task, the ideas actually flow better and more easily than if you had forced it.
Have you ever had this happen? What were you trying to work on and what did you do to take a break from it? Did procrastinating help?
