Open Thread: What Are You Struggling With?
As I work on some new information to pass along to you, I thought it’d be great to have an open discussion.
Tell me, what are you working on right now to get yourself organized? What are your trouble areas? And what do you think you are doing well?
I’m struggling with time management and trying to get everything done that I think needs doing. That can be tough when you have a small child around. So I’m working on prioritizing and learning what little things are okay to let go of – so I can work on bigger things.
Your turn – what seems to be your struggle right now? Maybe our collective wisdom can help you out a bit.

I think what I am experiencing right now is a standard problem of business growth.
We have launched a free web service, and it grows very nicely (heck, during the recession times everything that is free and useful will grow). The problem is that to support that growth we need people, and we cannot afford to hire extra people.
Does it seem like catch 22 or any ideas?
Getting organized is very important for anybody else. Managing time properly is perhaps one of the most important things to achieve goals in life. Proper planning is also very crucial to remain organized.
Like your site! I’m struggling with piles and piles of letters and other documents going back 8 months that need weeded, shredded, filed,….. ! I spend more energy agonising about getting it done – because I know it will demand a fairly full day of my life – that I likely would just doing it.
@Dim – that can be complicated, because everyone needs to earn money for the work they do. It sounds like you *want* to pay, which I think is great. One low-cost solution may be to check with a local university and see if you can work something out to hire an intern. If an intern doesn’t work out, I recommend that you try to pay what you can. You’ll always get better work when you pay someone, as opposed to asking for free help.
@Deb – To be honest, I have been neglecting my planning time more than I should. And it definitely shows. I’m working on that. Thanks for your comment.
@Money – Don’t forget that you don’t *HAVE* to do everything all at once. Try breaking it down into smaller bites. Set a timer for 1/2 hour and see what you can get done in just that time. Any progress you make is better than nothing. If you can do that a few days a week, it’ll be back to a manageable state in a short time. Without overwhelming you or requiring a full day. That’s what I’m trying to do with my clutter – tackle a different section or area when I have scheduled some time for it. It’s less frustrating than trying to clean the *entire* office all at once.
