We’re back on track with organizing and back to our various jobs.  The refrigerator is running again, is spic and span clean, and everything sorted and put back.  That’s one way to organize our two-family refrigerator…of necessity.
Do other things get organized in your life…by necessity?  You put it off and put it off until there is no option.  Or you may be forced to change course a bit, but find it’s in a good direction.

Do You Change Organizational Plans Frequently?

Do You Change Organizational Plans Frequently?

Are you generally dissatisfied with the speed of your decluttering and organization, so come up with a new plan frequently.  As a result you’re likely to stay pretty much in one place even though you flit from one plan to another.
One lady been decluttering this way.  She has gotten rid of some of her accumulation, tried a weekend at a flea market, has given some to a community thrift shop, moved stuff from room to room in her house and now is moving it to a rented storage unit so she can bring it home box by box to sort.  This has gone on for …read more

Organizing for a Yard Sale & More

Organizing for a Yard Sale & More

When we get organizing and decluttering, we often find a great deal of “stuff” we no longer need, nor have used for quite some time.  Instead of simply tossing it out, utilizing a yard sale is one possibility to get some money back while getting rid of the items.
To some, the idea of organizing a yard sale may seem overwhelming, but it’s mainly determining prices that aren’t too high, being willing to bargain, and even offering some items for free.  Making and placing attractive, eyecatching and easy to read signs is important, too.
You also can place items in consignment shops, …read more

Spring Cleaning Time

Spring Cleaning Time

It’s high time to clean the office. Yes, spring cleaning time is here. Whether you clean yearly or quarterly or more often, make sure you get that clutter under control.
I recently helped a friend clean her house just before a move. It motivated me to tackle my office area. Previously, a few stacks of books and papers weren’t that bothersome. They were close at hand, which was important at the time. But now I really want to reduce the visual clutter, so I’ve moved all the books off of my desktop and back into the book shelf. Books I don’t …read more

Conquer the junk drawer

Conquer the junk drawer

(www.myorganizedbiz.com) – One of my desk drawers is rapidly becoming a junk drawer. Oh, it didn’t start out that way, but over time it has become a sort of catch-all for the things I don’t know what to do with.
The drawer contains a bunch of cords that I know I need for various electronic devices. Software for my laptop and desktop. Extra sharpies. My iPod shuffle. Extra earphones. Battery chargers. There may even be some other items lurking under the mess.
So this week, I’m going to conquer this drawer. I plan to empty it completely and start over. First, …read more

Stuff overload

Stuff overload

(www.myorganizedbiz.com) Clutter can come in many forms. Too many emails. Too many projects. Too much stuff. In a society that encourages consumption over production, it’s easy to collect too much of everything.
Overloading ourselves
We feel that information gives us power, so we subscribe to hundreds off RSS feeds. We have to keep up on the industry, our competition, trends, cool stuff, and our guilty pleasures. We read every email that comes through our inbox, even though we really don’t need to. We take on bunches of projects because we’re afraid to say no, and then panic because we have so much …read more

The Great Car Cleanup

The Great Car Cleanup

(myorganizedbiz.com) – Most people think that because this is a business organizing blog that it means we have to talk about file folders. There’s a time and place for that.
In reality, though, the office extends beyond the desk… to the living room, the kitchen table and, yes, the car.
I’ve been lugging around a frightful amount of crap in the trunk for at least 5 months. Last night, I lay in bed thinking those things that only come up in the wee hours. “What would I do,” I wondered to myself. “If I got a flat tire?” This led to me …read more
