• Decide on a date and time.
• What will you emphasize…new services, products, reintroduction of current ones (see list on Home Biz Notes post).
• Put up notice in your place of business.
• Tuck notices into purchases.
• Send out cards/announcements which you can make on the computer.
• Possibly plan a program.
• Do you need someone to help?
• Will you have special decorations?
• Whatwill you give as door prizes or hand-outs (keeping them within a reasonable price range)?

Do you keep track of trends when organizing your business goals?

Sometimes focus and persistence along a planned path are good.  However, you might want to allow enough deviation to take into consideration trends in markets, the economy, and customers’ preferences.

For instance, I’ve discussed deviations to take into account for current trends (Considering the Market Trend for Your Home Business Products) at Home Biz Notes.  You may have a particular business with product or service, but need to keep current with trends to be profitable.

You need to be flexible in your business organization because of changing technology, changing economy, changing preferences of customers.  You cannot operate in a vacuum and say, “Because I’ve always done it this way…because I’ve always made this product…because I’ve always performed this service…I’m going to continue doing it just this way.”

Because times and people change so we must be adaptable and organize accordingly.

How have you had to change in your business organizing to stay in business…particularly in these stressful economic times?

When you don’t have time (and most of us don’t) to get from mess to organized, why not go for 20 minutes per day?  It doesn’t seem like much, and many times we don’t think we’ve accomplished a great deal.  But every little bit puts on the way to organization, I’ve discovered.

I heard two different speakers mention this at business conferences.  I tried it, then became discouraged because I didn’t make much progress.  So I gradually quit.

This time I’ve started again and am determined not to quit until I organize my husband’s and my office, my writing files and folders (and boxes of stuff), our household, and our life.  I don’t let myself consider that I’m not making progress.  I’ll defeat myself that way.  So I look at what I did do that day.

When my husband walks into a room and remarks, “I can see the floor in here.  You’re making progress,” I know I must be accomplishing something.

I’ve written about this from different slants in my blogs and will continue to report here how I’m doing.

Has anyone else tried the 20 Minutes to Organization?  Sometimes you may only squeeze in 15 minutes that day.  But I try to do something each day.

I’ve begun blogging at Small Business Boomers as well.  In addition, I do substitute teaching during the school year and work at a supermarket deli in the summer, while keeping up with my writing and helping my husband with an Internet based business. 

I live in a multi-generational home, so I need to learn and practice more organizational techniques. So organizing myself and learning more organizational practices should enable me to accomplish more and to help you organize, too.
