Is There a “Best” Way to Clear the Clutter?

As we look through books, research the Internet, and listen to friends and colleagues, we’ll come across numerous methods of organization.  Then we try to decide “what’s “best?”
However, is there a “best” way to organize?  Is there one method that will miraculously clear the clutter and keep us on a fast track toward productivity and profitablilty?

Use Freecycle to Get Rid of “Stuff”

Use Freecycle to Get Rid of “Stuff”

Part of organizing is getting rid of “stuff” you don’t need.  You’re either hanging onto it for possible future use.  Or you don’t know where to dump it.  Often it’s perfectly good, or at least has usefulness to someone else when you no longer need it.
A yard sale is one possibility.  But you may not have the time nor facilities for organizing one.  You may be restricted by zoning where you live to hold a yard sale.
What do yo do?  Explore the possibilities with Freecycle.
Here people give away, for free, items they no longer need.  Those who join the Freecycle …read more

“Stuff it in the Closet” Organizational Method

“Stuff it in the Closet” Organizational Method

I often think of a friend’s remark when her four children were small.  Her house always seemed so organized and neat, even though the youngsters were scurrying around with their friends.  My house with one daughter and my sewing business often seemed cluttered..
When I asked Kathy how she did it, she replied, “Don’t look in my closets,” she answered with a grin.  “The stuff will fall out on you.  Also, I have toy boxes in their rooms and a long windown seat trunk in the living room.  We simply stuff the stuff in those till I have time to sort through.”

Continually Thinking of Organization

Continually Thinking of Organization

Once I set myself on the 20 Minutes per day plan to organization, I find myself doing something before I go to bed if I’ve had a busy day and haven’t gotten to my quota.  It’s something like a fear of falling off the cliff if I don’t keep the clutter at bay.
Maybe that’s a reason for sticking with it.  This becomes a habit, a mindset, so that you’re continually thinking about keeping the disorganization out of your life.
I found, as I awoke the other morning, an idea popped into my mind about a place to store my accumulation of family …read more

When Organizing Becomes an Excuse

When Organizing Becomes an Excuse

With some people, organizing becomes an excuse for not moving forward in their business. I’ve met several people who say, “When I get my files organized….When I get learn more about my products…When I get my web site set up….”However, they never get anything to the standards they feel their business merits, thus organizing becomes an excuse for business inactivity.  Why does this happen?

They are compulsive people who think they must have everything in order before they can be productive.
They actually think organizing, filing, indexing are productive aspects of a business.
They have a fear of the actual productive activities if it involves  tasks …read more

Finding books on organization isn’t… organized

Finding books on organization isn’t… organized

(www.myorganizedbiz.com) – I stopped by the local bookstore today, to browse and see what’s new in the organizational and productivity arenas. And I was disappointed to find that there’s not a section specifically for our topic. If you want to find books on getting organized and managing your time, you’ll actually waste time trying to find them.
Chew on that one for a moment.
The books are generally in a couple of sections: self-improvement and business. And in those sections, there is no sub-section. You almost have to know the book title or author that you’re looking for.
I was really disappointed to …read more
